A little about where we are staying

Above are a couple photos of our apartment building which is where we have been living the last couple weeks in Mariupol, Donetsk Region, Ukraine.

We walk by one of the street markets everyday. It is always busy. Here are a few photos of some of the things they sell. There are so many stray dogs here; we see them curled up alongside the buildings in the street market. Most of them are injured and really skinny. They hang around all the vendors and garbage cans waiting for scraps.

The last picture is of the steel factory we pass everyday on our way to the orphanage. It is really blurry (1) because we are in a car and (2) it is so smoggy. The air around here is HORRIBLE! Mariuple, Donetsk Region is home to three of the largest steel factories in the world (so we’ve been told!). We are staying on the opposite end of town (out of the pollution), but there are a lot of homes around this one. I could not imagine living close by.

WOW those pictures of the market are really fabulous--it's so interesting to read about other places! And the pollution...YUCK! Looks like you've had a great adventure!
